The week I had to rip up 800 square feet of click-lock because the homeowner bought the wrong underlayment

They got a foam pad meant for laminate over concrete, but the subfloor was plywood and it squeaked like crazy under every step. Has anyone else had a client bring their own materials and then refuse to believe it's the problem?

Man, remember that time my buddy had a client who insisted on using their own bargain bin vinyl planks? They were so thin and flimsy... you could practically see through them. He tried to warn them, but they wouldn't listen. Of course, two months later half the planks had cracked at the seams from just normal furniture. The whole floor had to come out.

Did they at least pay for the redo?

Saw a video from a flooring contractor where the homeowner fought him on underlayment too. Reminded me of @joseph455 asking about payment for the redo - honestly, some people just have to learn the hard way. The foam pad on plywood creates that weird squish that makes every step sound like an old mattress spring. Had a neighbor who tried the same thing and ended up pulling half the floor because the locking system started separating from all the movement.
