Been tracking my flower waste for 6 months and the numbers surprised me
I started keeping a log of every stem I toss in the compost bin back in January, expecting maybe 10-15% waste from my shop in Nashville. Turns out I was throwing away nearly 30% of my inventory mostly from over-ordering hydrangeas and spray roses that just don't last. Has anyone else actually measured their discards and found a different number than they guessed?

Hold up Im gonna push back on that 30% number a bit. If youve been in the game long enough you learn that hydrangeas and spray roses are just fragile by nature, not really a ordering problem. Ive run a shop for 5 years and my waste sits at like 12-15% consistently, and thats with ordering those same flowers every week. The trick is buying them 2-3 days before you need em and keeping them in a cooler thats dialed in right. Maybe your numbers are telling you more about your storage setup than your ordering habits honestly.

Wouldn't a better cooler drop your waste to around 8%?
