Showerthought: I used to think wire was the only way to build a tall centerpiece, but a foam cage changed my mind.
For a wedding last month, the bride wanted these huge, airy centerpieces with a lot of height. My go-to for years was building a wire frame and taping it all together (you know, the classic method). It worked, but it was a pain and took forever. On a whim, I grabbed one of those plastic foam cages from the wholesaler. I was sure it would look cheap or be too stiff. But man, it was so much faster to build on, and the stems actually stayed put better than with my old wire web. The whole thing felt more secure, and I saved about 20 minutes per piece. I'm not throwing out my wire, but for big, dense designs, the cage is my new starting point. Has anyone else switched up their structural basics for large pieces recently?

Always thought cages were tacky, but they saved my sanity on a massive arch last week.

What kind of arch were you working on?
