TIL skipping the water bowl for stem cuts improved my workflow

Most guides insist on underwater trimming, but my flowers last just as long without it. I save so much time on large orders now!

Last week I had to do 120 stem cuts for a cafe job and skipped the water. I mean, all those guides make it seem like a must, but my arrangements held up just fine. I save so much time now, maybe 20 minutes on a big order. It's really freeing to not worry about the bowl and just get it done. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like some methods are more about tradition than results. Glad to hear it's working for you too.

Spot the same thing in my work all the time. Guys will overcomplicate a simple concrete form with perfect bracing when a couple solid kicks and some basic ties do the job. We get hung up on the "right way" and lose sight of the fact the thing just needs to not fall over. Your flower water is like us and taping every seam versus just hitting the corners. Saves a roll of tape and twenty minutes. Sometimes the ritual matters less than the result holding up.

Totally get what you mean about the ritual mattering less. I used to be the person who would never skip the flower water, thought it was a basic rule you just followed. But after reading your point about the arrangements holding up fine, I tried it on a few smaller orders last month. Honestly, I couldn't tell a difference in how long they lasted, and it cut out a whole step. It really does free up time. Why do we hold onto some steps so tightly if they don't change the outcome?
