Everyone raves about the taco truck on 5th but I think their salsa is way too sweet
Last week I grabbed three carnitas tacos from them, and the salsa verde tasted like it had honey or sugar in it, which just felt wrong. I mentioned it to the guy working the window and he just shrugged, saying 'that's how we make it'. Has anyone else tried their salsa and thought it was oddly sweet, or is it just me?

My friend Mark got a burrito there last month and had the same reaction. He said the red salsa tasted like someone mixed in fruit punch or something. He actually asked for a side of plain jalapenos because the sweetness was so weird with the meat. Makes you wonder why they do that, right?

I saw a food blog post last year that said some chains add sugar or fruit purees to salsa to appeal to a wider customer base who might find traditional salsa too spicy or acidic. They mentioned a place in Arizona that puts mango in their pico de gallo. It's a real trend, especially in bigger franchise spots trying to stand out. I guess they're going for a signature flavor, but it just ends up tasting wrong on a burrito.
