Had to choose between a new truck or fixing my old one for good.
My 2008 step van needed a new engine, about $15k. The other option was a $75k loan for a brand new truck. I chose the fix. Got the work done in Tacoma over three weeks. Now I know every inch of that engine. Feels more solid than a new payment hanging over me. Anyone else go the rebuild route and feel like it was the smarter play?

Why is everyone so quick to jump into debt for something shiny? I see it everywhere, not just with trucks. Neighbor down the street bought a brand new washing machine because the old one had a weird noise. Cost him $1,200. A buddy fixed the same issue on mine for a $20 belt. People treat the whole world like it's disposable now. Fixing stuff means you actually own it. New payments just mean the bank owns you.

My buddy in Spokane just put a remanufactured Cummins in his '99 F-350 for about twelve grand. He said the peace of mind knowing the whole engine is fresh, plus no debt, beats a shiny new truck any day. That's a solid move you made.

Honestly, that's a ton of cash to drop on an old truck. For twelve grand, you're halfway to a decent used rig that's already sorted. I'd rather put that money toward something newer and not worry about what breaks next.
