PSA: Had to choose between a permit for the downtown plaza or the weekly farmers market spot
The city only had one open slot left for a new vendor, so I picked the plaza for the foot traffic. After two months, I'm barely covering costs because the lunch crowd is all office workers who just want cheap sandwiches. Should I try to switch to the Saturday market instead, even with the higher fee?

Trying to sell fancy cheese to people who only see bread" is the perfect way to put it. You're in the wrong spot for what you're selling. The market fee hurts, but what's the point of a cheaper spot if nobody buys?

Used to think the cheaper spot was always the smart move, just like parkert73 said. Had a friend selling handmade leather bags at a flea market for months, barely made rent. Moved to a craft fair with higher fees and sold out the first weekend. Sometimes the crowd matters more than the cost, you know? Paying for the right eyes on your product beats a cheap spot with the wrong crowd every time.

Ever feel like you're trying to sell fancy cheese to people who only see bread? The market crowd might actually want what you're cooking.
