Hot take: That retro game store in Portland made me rethink emulation vs original hardware

I was at Video Game Heaven in Portland last Sunday. Guy behind the counter swore by original SNES consoles. Said emulation adds lag and ruins the feel. But I've been playing on a modded SNES Classic for 2 years and it feels fine to me. He had a point about the CRT filter though. Is original hardware worth the hassle or is emulation good enough now?

You ever just watch your friend go down a rabbit hole for months? My buddy Ryan spent like 400 bucks on a real SNES, a flash cart, and a CRT from some guy's garage. He was all about that pure experience. Then last week his console just died on him, wouldn't power on at all. He spent two hours taking it apart, cleaning pins, ordering a new power supply. Meanwhile I'm sitting here playing the same games on my phone with a bluetooth controller, no fuss. He's still glad he did it though, says the lag is real on certain games like Super Ghouls n Ghosts. I dunno, I just don't have the patience for that kind of tinkering anymore.

Man, I've been there... gotta admit the CRT hunt burned me out too.
