Why does nobody talk about the original iPod Shuffle anymore, the one that was basically a flash drive with a clip?

I found my old 2005 1GB model in a box last month, charged it up, and it still works perfectly after almost 20 years, which is a solid reminder that the best tech is the kind that just does its simple job without needing an app or a subscription.

Totally agree, found my old one in a junk drawer last year and it fired right up. That thing is a tank.

Yeah, that "fired right up" thing @andreww30 mentioned is lucky. In my experience, batteries get wrecked if they sit for years. Mine was totally dead.
