Watched the same thing happen with a "waterproof" speaker that died in light rain. It feels like every product description now is just a wish list the marketing team came up with, completely untested. You're not buying a thing, you're buying the idea of a thing that doesn't actually exist. The gap between the ad and the real item is a canyon you only see after you've already spent the money.

Got a waterproof phone case that failed its first real test at the beach. Sure it's annoying, but is it really some huge new problem? People have always sold junk. You just check the reviews now instead of asking your neighbor. That gap between the ad and the real thing feels big because you see the perfect ad first, not because products are suddenly worse.
