Can we talk about switching to electric furnaces in our local foundries?

I've seen more shops going electric for cleaner casts. But old hands say gas gives more consistent metal flow. How do you all handle this shift?

Jenny's shop might have gotten lucky, but gas furnaces have decades of proven track record. Electric ones can struggle with alloy changes mid-pour, don't they? That smooth flow from gas is hard to beat for complex molds. We tried an electric unit and had to babysit the temperature constantly. Why fix what isn't broken for most heavy casting work?

Yeah, and that's the thing dakotal19 is really getting at, the proven track record. It's not just about getting lucky once, it's about running a furnace for ten hours straight on a Tuesday and knowing it won't spike or dip on you. That gas flame is a simple, brute force way to heat that just works, especially with bigger batches. Newer electric tech is getting better, but when you're in the middle of a big pour, you don't want to be the one testing it. The risk of a cold shut or a ruined mold because the temp control hiccuped is just too real for a lot of shops.

Our shop switched last year and the consistency is fine, honestly.
