Debated between ceramic blanket and castable refractory for my new furnace build

Went with the blanket since it was $45 cheaper and easier to cut, but now I'm worried about fiber dust every time I fire it up - anyone else deal with this tradeoff?

Oh man I feel this so hard. I went back and forth for weeks on that same decision and ended up with the blanket too because my wallet made the choice for me. The cost difference was just too big to ignore at the time and it was a breeze to cut and fit in my setup. But yeah every time I fire it up now I'm standing there with a mask on wondering how much of that stuff is floating around in my shop. You're definitely not wrong to worry about it because that fiber dust is no joke and I've caught myself overthinking every little itch on my skin after a long firing session. I wish I had just ponied up for the castable even if it meant running a smaller furnace for the extra cost.

Gotta push back on this one a little @dakotab13. I went with the castable from the start and yeah it cost more and took way longer to install but now I never think twice about dust or fibers. That peace of mind alone was worth the extra cash for me. Plus castable is way tougher if you accidentally bump it with a piece or drop something in there. I've seen blanket setups get torn up after a few months and then you're right back to worrying about particles.
