Had a ladle handle snap clean off during a pour yesterday afternoon, scared the heck out of me.

Actually I was reading an article about tool metallurgy the other day and it said a lot of these breaks happen because of tiny stress fractures in the metal that you can't even see. It builds up over time from heating and cooling, especially with cheaper stainless steel that has impurities in the mix. The article recommended occasionally giving your utensils a gentle flex test to see if there's any give or weird resistance before they fully snap. Has that ever happened with any of your other kitchen tools?

Snapping clean off is the worst. I once had a whole bottle opener break in my hand mid-pull, left me just standing there holding a metal ring like an idiot.

That metal ring moment @jessec35 described is so real. The worst part is the delayed reaction, just staring at the broken piece for a second before the frustration hits. It makes you question the whole build quality of everything around you. If a simple tool can't handle one basic job, what else is just waiting to fail? It's a tiny betrayal from an inanimate object.
