The shearer is the core equipment of a fully mechanized coal mining face, and the ranging arm, as a key component of the shearer, undertakes the important task of cutting coal. Its working environment is extremely harsh: it must not only withstand enormous impact loads and alternating stresses, but also face wear from coal and rock as well as the influence of complex geological conditions. Traditional materials are prone to problems such as fatigue fracture and wear failure. Most failures of shearer ranging arms are directly related to insufficient material performance. The performance of the ranging arm directly affects the working efficiency and reliability of the shearer, as well as the safety and economy of coal mining.
At present, shearer ranging arms are mostly manufactured from cast steel materials. However, traditional cast steel materials such as ZG25Mn and ZG25Mn2 have already found it difficult to meet the growing coal mining demands in terms of strength, wear resistance, and weldability. With the continuous development of coal mining technology, the performance requirements for shearer ranging arms are becoming increasingly higher. Especially under large mining height and thin coal seam mining conditions, ranging arms are required to have higher strength, good plasticity and toughness, and excellent weldability to ensure reliable operation under complex stress states.
1.Analysis of working conditions:
During operation, the shearer ranging arm needs to frequently perform actions such as lifting, lowering, and swinging to adapt to changes in different coal seam thicknesses and geological conditions. When cutting coal, the ranging arm is subjected to strong impact and friction from coal and rock, bearing enormous dynamic and static loads. At the same time, because the underground environment is humid, the ranging arm also faces the risk of corrosion. In addition, transmission components such as gears and bearings inside the ranging arm generate a large amount of heat during high-speed operation, causing the operating temperature of the ranging arm to rise and further affecting its material performance.
2.Performance requirements:
High strength: To withstand complex loads, the ranging arm material needs sufficiently high tensile strength and yield strength to prevent failure modes such as deformation and fracture during operation. Especially in large mining height coal mining, the ranging arm needs to withstand greater gravity and cutting forces, so the strength requirements are even stricter.
Good wear resistance: Coal and rock have relatively high hardness and will cause severe wear to the surface of the ranging arm during cutting. Therefore, the ranging arm material should have good wear resistance to extend its service life and reduce maintenance frequency and downtime.
Certain plasticity and toughness: Although the ranging arm requires high strength, it also needs a certain degree of plasticity and toughness to absorb impact energy and prevent serious accidents caused by brittle fracture. In thin coal seam mining, the ranging arm may be subjected to more irregular impacts, so good plasticity and toughness are particularly important.
Excellent weldability: Because the ranging arm has a complex structure, welding is inevitably required during manufacturing. Materials with good weldability can ensure welding quality, reduce welding defects, and improve the overall reliability of the ranging arm. At the same time, in later maintenance, good weldability also facilitates repair of the ranging arm.
