My foreman told me to stop using that old green sand recipe back in '08
He said the new mix with less bentonite would hold up better for our aluminum castings, and after a week of fewer blowouts, I had to admit he was right. I still see guys sticking to the old ways though, especially in smaller shops around Detroit. What's one piece of shop advice you got that seemed wrong at first?

Sometimes the old ways stick around for a reason. That green sand recipe was tested for years and worked on a thousand different jobs. Newer isn't always better, just different.
