Old timer swore by graphite powder for stuck cores, I thought he was nuts
Been fighting a stuck sand core in a motor housing for 3 days. Boss's dad, guy who worked here since 1979, told me to dust the print with graphite powder before setting it. I laughed it off, figured it was some old wives tale. Finally tried it yesterday on a 200 pound core and it slid right into place, no hammer needed. Has anyone else found weird old tricks that actually work better than modern release agents?

... and here I've been hitting stuff with a hammer for 20 years like some kind of caveman. I swear every time I ignore the old guys it costs me a day of my life.

My grandpa swore by bacon grease for stuck bolts and it worked better than anything we bought at the store.

@grace_hunt84 I tried bacon grease once on a seized brake bleeder screw on my old truck. Let it sit overnight and the thing cracked loose with barely any effort. Now I keep a little jar of it in the garage right next to the WD-40. Works way better than PB Blaster in my experience.
