Talked to an old timer at the union hall this week

Ran into a guy named Frank who worked at the Bethlehem plant back in the 70s. He told me they used to pour iron straight from the cupola without any of the fancy computer controls we have now, just relied on their eyes and feel. Made me think about how much we lean on sensors instead of actually knowing the metal. Any of you guys ever try working without the automation just to see if you still got the touch?

Why trade a trained eye for a sensor that can fail on you?

Isn't that kind of like how we all just trust our GPS now instead of remembering how to get somewhere? It seems like we're swapping skills we've built for convenience that can totally glitch out at the worst moment.
