This new guy at the Toledo plant kept arguing that green sand was just for beginners
He said it right in front of our shift lead, who's been running a cope and drag line with that same sand mix for 22 years, and the look on her face was a mix of pity and pure 'you have no idea what you're talking about, kid'.

That "just for beginners" line is a dead giveaway he's reading blogs instead of running metal. Green sand works if you know how to run it, period. Let him learn the hard way when his fancy sand cracks a core.

Paul_stone29 is spot on, you can tell when someone's only ever read about casting instead of getting their hands dirty. Saw a guy at the shop last year blow through three hundred bucks on specialty sand only to have every single pour fail. Green sand never did him wrong once he learned the basics. Some people just need to make their own mistakes before they listen.
