TIL cast iron pot handles can crack if you quench them too fast in water
I was reading an old foundry manual I picked up at a yard sale last Saturday, and it mentioned that quenching cast iron too quickly creates internal stress fractures. I always thought you could dunk a hot pot in water no problem, like you see in movies. Turns out, the thermal shock is real and can ruin a piece you spent hours on. Has anyone else run into this issue with their own castings?

Sounds like overthinking a simple pot to me.

Not overthinking at all, a good pot makes or breaks the whole dish.
