Was dead set against respirator fit testing until last Tuesday

I always figured I knew my face well enough to pick the right seal, but a guy from OSHA watched me put one on and pointed out three gaps I couldn't even feel. He had me do a saccharin spray test and I tasted it in under 10 seconds. Has anyone else had a near miss like that before they got serious about it?

I got hit with the saccharin test too and thought I passed until my coworker started laughing and said I had a face full of pink mist from the sprayer. Nothing like tasting candy to realize you're a leaky idiot.

Zero percent chance I would've passed a saccharin test before seeing it done either, that pink mist story is hilarious and terrifying at the same time. It's a solid reminder how often we think we're fine at something until someone actually checks us, like driving with a blind spot or cooking with a dull knife.
