A client in Portland told me to never work weekends, but I think he's wrong
I was grabbing coffee with a fellow freelancer about six months ago, and he was adamant that taking any weekend calls or emails would burn me out fast. He said, 'If you're available on a Sunday, you'll never get a real break.' I get the logic, but last Tuesday I landed a $900 rush job because I answered a simple email on a Saturday afternoon. That client is now one of my most regular. Has anyone else found that a little flexibility actually helps more than it hurts?

But what about burnout later?

Forget burnout, that's just fear talking. I've seen people grind for years and come out stronger because they built real skills early. Pushing hard now sets you up to coast later, like saving money when you're young. If you always worry about burning out, you'll never get ahead while you have the energy.

Used to believe the grind was the only way. Watched a friend push for a decade, hit a wall, and now they can't even look at their old field. The coast later idea only works if you're still in one piece to enjoy it.
