Yeah, "cheaper than my normal guy" is a huge red flag to raise your rates immediately.

Kelly's absolutely right, "cheaper than my normal guy" always screams trouble and I've learned that the hard way. Had a guy say that to me once and I actually caved and gave a discount, ended up doing three times the revisions and he still complained. @jadep41's idea of quoting higher is the only smart play, saves you the headache before it starts.

Oh absolutely. That phrase means they're used to being overcharged for bad work. I'd quote them 20% higher than my normal rate just to see if they'd pay it.
