That $200 gig platform subscription I thought was a total scam

Signed up for that premium freelance marketplace six months ago in Austin, figured it was just another money grab. Landed a steady retainer client within 3 weeks that pays my rent every month. Anyone else find a platform actually worth the upfront cost or is this just a fluke?

I mean that $200 thing sounds steep but honestly I've noticed this pattern where we kind of assume all paid stuff is a scam until we actually try it. My neighbor paid $150 for some weird phone app that helps organize meal plans and she swears it saved her marriage because they stopped fighting about dinner every night. Maybe it's just the way things work now where you gotta pay for the real stuff and the free stuff is just noise. So yeah I'd say your experience sounds more like a pattern than a fluke.

oh man I totally feel you on this. I was so skeptical about paying for anything online until last year when I caved and bought a 50 dollar subscription to a language app because my friend wouldn't stop talking about it. Turns out it actually works way better than the free one I was using, and now I feel kinda dumb for all those hours I wasted on the slow free version. So yeah, I really get where you're coming from, sometimes you just have to take the leap and see for yourself.
