Always bought canned tomatoes until a buddy showed me you can freeze whole ones from the farmers market for $1 a pound

Grabbed a 20 pound box for $12 last August and I'm still pulling out perfect tomatoes for chili and sauce in February, has anyone else tried freezing instead of canning?

Wait, is it really that serious? I mean freezing tomatoes works fine for cooking but you're acting like this is some life changing discovery. Honestly, I've done both and canning isn't that big of a deal either. Freezing takes up a ton of space in your freezer and the texture gets all mushy when they thaw. I guess if you're making chili or sauce it doesn't matter but don't act like this is some hack nobody knows about. My grandma canned for years and her tomatoes always tasted way better than anything frozen. Ngl though, if you're lazy like me and just want to dump them in a pot, freezing works good enough.

@jason328 nailed it - the mush factor is real but freezing saves time for sure.
