Just had a flashback to my first apartment while making lentil stew

When I was in my first apartment, I'd blow my budget on pizza and fries. These days, I can whip up a huge batch of lentil stew for almost nothing, and it's way more satisfying (and healthier, too). What cheap meals bring back memories for you?

What finally pushed you from the pizza phase to figuring out the lentil stew? Was it just the money, or did something specific make you want to cook that way?

Honestly, it was the stomach ache. How many nights of frozen pizza can one person eat before they feel like a grease balloon? The money was a big push, but the real kicker was wanting a meal that didn't make me feel awful after. Lentils were cheap and actually filled me up without the regret.

In my experience, canned tuna and crackers were my budget savers back then. Your mileage may vary, but it still reminds me of that first shoebox apartment.
