Ruined a batch of chili because I skipped one step

I was making my usual cheap chili last Tuesday in my tiny kitchen. Threw in canned tomatoes, beans, and some ground beef I got on sale. Forgot to drain and rinse the kidney beans first. The whole pot turned into a murky, starchy mess and took forever to thicken up. Has anyone else had a simple skip like that ruin a whole meal?

Draining the beans is like a 10 second step, are we really calling a whole batch ruined over some starchy liquid? The chili might have looked a little weird for a bit but it still has all the same ingredients and flavor. You probably could have just let it simmer an extra 20 minutes and it would have been fine. Sounds like you just gave up on it too early honestly.

The beans soak up that liquid when they cook anyway so it's not like you're eating straight starch water. People act like canning liquid is poison when it's literally just bean juice. A little extra simmer time would have thickened it right up and nobody would have noticed the difference.
