Garage floor epoxy didn't stick in one spot - here's what I missed

I did my whole garage floor last weekend. Two car garage, about 400 square feet. Thought I prepped everything right. But there's this one patch near the water heater that's peeling up already. Turns out I forgot to degrease that spot. Oil drips from the old heater soaked in. Now I gotta grind that section down and redo it. Anyone else have a hidden grease spot ruin their floor job?

Forgot to degrease that spot" - oh MAN. I felt that in my soul. That one little patch of oil under the water heater is basically kryptonite for epoxy. I did almost the exact same thing with my dad's shop floor a few years back. We scrubbed that concrete like three times, but there was this tiny grease stain from an old lawnmower we didn't even see. Next thing you know, the whole section around it started lifting like a bad sunburn. It's crazy how something that small can just completely wreck all that work. Grinding it down and redoing it is the only way, but at least you caught it early before it spread everywhere.

Grinding down that whole section and using a good degreaser first fixed it for me. Just make sure you feather the edges so the new coat blends in right.
