I was putting my floor epoxy on way too thick for years

I just finished my third garage floor in my house here in Tempe, and I finally figured out out. The first two times, I used the whole kit on a single car space, thinking more was better. The stuff would take over a week to fully cure and it would get those weird shiny soft spots. My buddy came over last weekend, saw me pouring it out, and just said, 'Kai, you're drowning it.' He showed me his floor, done with the same Rust-Oleum kit, and his was thin, even, and rock hard in two days. I was basically wasting half the product and creating a weak, gummy layer. I redid a small section with a super thin coat, and it set up perfect overnight. Has anyone else had to learn the 'less is more' rule with epoxy the hard way?

Hold on, that thin coat stuff is a gamble. A thick layer is way more durable against heavy tools getting dropped or chemicals spilling. So what if it takes a week to cure? You get a tougher floor in the end. That thin, hard coat is going to chip and show every flaw in the concrete underneath. I'd rather use more product and know it's sealed up solid for good.

Seems like a lot of life works that way.
