Just spent 4 hours figuring out garage shelving brackets
I wanted to install heavy duty shelves for my camping gear and bought those basic L brackets from the hardware store. Took me three trips back because I kept grabbing the wrong size and weight rating. The real issue was finding studs that lined up where I needed them. Anyone else run into bracket sizing issues or am I just overthinking this?

Read somewhere that the trick with L brackets is to get the ones with the diagonal brace, they hold way more weight than the plain flat ones without being as bulky. Sounds like your stud issue is pretty common though, I've had to use toggle bolts in a pinch when the wood studs didn't line up with where my gear needed to hang. Maybe next time map out your studs first with a magnetic stud finder before you even buy the brackets, saves on the headache of returns.

Had the same stud headache last month, ended up swapping for snap toggles and they've been solid ever since.
