Pro tip: a friend said my garage floor paint job looked like a cheap sticker

I painted my garage floor in my house in Boise with a standard kit, thinking it was good enough. A buddy came over and said, 'That looks like a cheap sticker you just laid down, Linda. Did you even etch the concrete first?' I had not. He was right. It started peeling near the door after about four months. I redid it right, renting a floor grinder from the local tool place for a day. I ground the surface, used a proper two-part epoxy, and let it cure for a full week before parking on it. That was two years ago and it still looks new. Has anyone else had to redo a floor because they skipped a step like that?

Prep work is the whole game, no shortcuts.

Prep work is the whole game" feels a bit extreme to me. For a garage floor, sure, you can't skip etching or grinding. But for plenty of other jobs, like painting a wall, a quick sand and wipe down is often all the prep you really need. Calling it the whole game makes it sound like nothing else matters, when picking the right paint matters a ton too.
