Was sure that new root barrier stuff was just a gimmick, but my neighbor's bamboo convinced me otherwise
My neighbor, Frank, planted running bamboo about 15 feet from our shared property line. I told him he was nuts. He swore by this thick plastic root barrier he buried 30 inches deep in a trench all around it. I thought it was a complete waste of $200 and an afternoon. That was three years ago. My garage slab is right on the other side of that fence. Not a single shoot has come up on my side, not even a hint of one. His yard is a jungle, mine is clear. I have to admit, I was totally wrong. For anyone who's dealt with invasive plants near their foundation or slab, what's the deepest you've ever had to bury a barrier to actually work?

Just got lucky. That stuff fails more often than not.

Isn't that just how most things go, @hall.charles?
