A talk with my neighbor changed how I think about lawn care

My neighbor Bob stopped me while I was watering my lawn last Saturday. He pointed out that I was watering every day but just for 10 minutes, and said I should soak it deep once a week instead. He told me his grass used to turn brown every July until he switched to watering 45 minutes once a week early in the morning. I tried it for two weeks and my lawn actually looks greener than before. Has anyone else found that watering less often works better?

Did you ever accidentally drown your lawn before figuring this out too?

Yep, absolutely murdered my first lawn two summers ago. Had the sprinklers running every single day for like 45 minutes because I thought grass just needed constant water. Ended up with this gross, mushy mess full of fungus and the roots just rotted out. Took me forever to figure out that deep but infrequent watering was the real trick.
