Appreciation post: That random fact about paint drying time changed my whole weekend project
I was painting my living room last Saturday and got curious why the can said "wait 4 hours between coats." So I looked it up online and found out that paint doesn't just dry by evaporation - it also goes through a chemical curing process that takes like 30 days! I always thought if it felt dry to the touch it was good to go. Turns out if you put a second coat on too early it can trap solvents underneath and cause peeling later. Who knew that random detail from a hardware store blog would save me from redoing my whole wall next month?

That curing thing explains why my old paint jobs always peeled after a year.

Funny you say that, because I noticed the same thing with my bathroom caulking a couple years back. I used to slap it on, wait maybe 4 hours, and call it good, but it would crack and peel every single time within 6 months. Then I found out you're supposed to let it cure for at least 24 hours, sometimes 48 depending on the type. It's like people just don't realize how long these materials actually need to set up properly. That's the same reason my homemade bread used to come out doughy in the middle - I wasn't letting it rest long enough before slicing it. It's a whole pattern of rushing through things that take time to finish right.
