Found out my 1950s house has way less insulation than I thought
Was up in the attic last weekend. Pulling down some old boxes. Saw the insulation looked thin. Got curious and measured it. Only about 3 inches of that old, dusty stuff. Did a quick search on my phone. Modern code for my area says R-38 minimum. That's like 12 inches of fiberglass. No wonder my heating bill was so high last winter. Felt kind of dumb for not checking sooner. Anyone else get a shock when they looked at their own home's bones?

Ugh, but that stuff settles so much over time.
