I used to just hose off my patio furniture and call it done
For years I thought a quick spray with the garden hose was good enough for my plastic resin chairs and table. Then last spring I noticed this weird gray film building up on the armrests, and no amount of water would touch it. I finally broke down and used a bucket of warm water with a squirt of dish soap and a soft brush, scrubbing each piece by hand. It took me about 40 minutes for a set of 6 chairs and a table, but the difference was huge. The color came back and the film was gone, plus the cushions looked way less dingy. Now I do this every April before we start using the patio, and I don't just hose things off anymore. Has anyone else found a weird buildup on outdoor plastic furniture that soap wouldn't touch?

Honestly I never bother scrubbing anything outside, a good rain usually does the job eventually.

Rain only gets the loose surface dirt, tbh. You really need to scrub if you've got mildew growing in the corners or bird droppings that have baked on for weeks. I gave my patio furniture a proper scrub with a stiff brush and some dish soap last month and the difference was night and day.
