That expensive grout sealer spray I thought was a scam actually worked on my kitchen backsplash

I bought this $22 bottle of sealer from the hardware store near my place in Tucson, but I was sure it was just fancy water. My wife kept nagging me about staining the grout, so I finally sprayed it on a Saturday morning and wiped it off after 10 minutes like the instructions said. A week later I spilled red wine on the counter and it dripped into the grout lines - I wiped it up with a paper towel and there was zero stain. I honestly thought grout sealer was a gimmick until I saw that wine bead up and sit on top. Has anyone else had a product like this surprise them when it actually delivered?

Used to be a total skeptic about grout sealer, honestly. My buddy kept telling me to seal my bathroom floor and I just laughed it off. Then I did a test on a little hidden spot with a cheap bottle from the hardware store and spilled some coffee on it the next day. The coffee just sat there like a little dome, didn't soak in at all. Changed my whole mind about it, now I seal everything in the kitchen and bathroom. Really glad I gave it a shot after seeing how well it worked for you too.

Wait, you mean a cheap store brand actually worked better than the fancy stuff?

Oh come on, give it a few months and you'll see that cheap stuff wear off fast. I tried the same thing on my bathroom grout and within like 3 months the water was soaking right back in again. Had to scrub off the old layer and redo it with the expensive stuff from the tile shop, what a pain. Those sprays just sit on top instead of actually bonding with the grout.
