Finally sorted out my landlord's illegal security deposit hold after 8 months

Small claims court paperwork took way longer than I thought - like 12 hours across 3 weekends to get it all filed right. Has anyone else had a landlord try to keep your deposit past the 30 day mark in your state?

And then they try to play dumb about the 30 day rule.

Right, because everyone memorizes the fine print on day one of signing up. Its not like they expect you to actually read the terms and conditions, its just there to trip you up later. Oh sure, I definitely remember seeing that buried in paragraph 47, subsection C, right between the part about sacrificing a chicken and agreeing to their firstborn. The classic "gotcha" move.
