I thought a $300 will kit was a waste, but it saved my family a huge headache

My dad passed last year without a will, and probate in Cook County cost us over $8,000 and took 11 months. I just did my own with an online service for about $300. Having clear instructions for my house and accounts means my kids won't have to fight the courts like we did. Has anyone else used a service like LegalZoom and had it hold up?

Right? That probate process is a total racket. @adams.barbara is spot on calling it a parking garage, except they lose your car and charge you daily. My aunt used LegalZoom and it was fine, the only drama was my cousins fighting over her tacky velvet Elvis painting, not the courts. For three hundred bucks to avoid that mess, it's a no brainer.

Probate court is basically a very expensive, very slow parking garage for dead people's stuff. That $300 kit sounds like the express lane fee. My cousin used a similar service and the only thing that got contested was who got the ugly ceramic rooster collection.
