My landlord tried to keep my entire $1200 deposit over a scuff on the wall

I sent him a photo of the move-in sheet proving it was there already, and he backed down in an hour. Has anyone else had to fight a deposit claim like that?

Yeah, and always take a video too. Photos can miss things. Do a slow walk through every room, get close ups on any damage, and make sure the date is on it. That video saved me when my old place tried to charge for a broken blind that was already cracked.

Honestly, that seems like overkill to me. Landlords have the original photos from before you moved in anyway. A video just makes the whole move-out process more stressful than it needs to be.
