Walked into the courthouse in Springfield and the line for the small claims window was insane
I had to file a paper for a landlord issue and the queue was wrapped around the lobby, at least 30 people deep. The clerk told me they only have one person working that desk most mornings. How is anyone supposed to get basic help with this kind of setup? Has anyone had luck filing small claims stuff online here to avoid that mess?

Is it just me or does the universe have some personal vendetta against people who just need to get a simple piece of paper filed? I feel like they deliberately staff that desk with one person to see how long it takes before someone like @the_jake cracks and tries to file a claim via carrier pigeon. I had to go last month for a deposit dispute and brought a whole sandwich and a book, knew it was gonna be a half-day ordeal. Haven't tried the online thing yet myself, but honestly, at this point I'd rather wrestle with a glitchy website than stand in that line again. Maybe I'll look into it if I ever have to go back, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

That "one person working that desk" thing is everywhere now. It's like they want the public to just give up. Same deal at the DMV, the post office, even trying to call a doctor's office. You block off your whole morning for one simple task and the system is built to waste your time. I haven't tried filing online here, but at this point I'd try anything to avoid those lines.

Consider the sheer cost of keeping a building open and staffed. I bet they push everyone online to save on rent and power bills for those big empty offices. It's not just about payroll, it's about closing the doors entirely and calling it progress.
