A stubborn basalt column in Iceland made me rethink my whole approach
I spent a full day trying to photograph a specific formation near Vik, convinced I needed the perfect light. A local guide simply said, 'The rock isn't going anywhere, but the story might,' and pointed out some incredible zeolite deposits in the fractures I'd completely missed. Has anyone else had a planned shot completely upended by a better detail right under their nose?

Isn't it funny how we get so locked on the big goal we miss the good stuff right next to us? Happens to me at the grocery store all the time, hunting for one thing and finding something way better on a shelf I always skip.

Actually @susansingh, I see it the other way. That focus is what gets things done. If I'm looking for cumin at the store, I need cumin for the recipe. Finding a fancy jam instead just means I wasted time and still don't have dinner ready. Life is full of distractions, and sticking to the list is how you actually finish a project or make a meal. The "good stuff" you find is often just another thing to buy or do that pulls you off track.
