Found selenite crystals in my backyard after that big storm last week
I live near Topeka and we got that crazy rain last Tuesday. Next morning I'm digging a new post hole for a fence. Hit something shiny about 2 feet down. Pulled out these long clear crystals. They look like selenite but I'm not sure. They scratch glass easy and peel apart in layers. My buddy swears it's just gypsum but they seem too clear. Anyone else find random crystals after heavy rain? Should I bother sending a sample to the state survey or just keep them on my shelf?

Yeah selenite is just a clear form of gypsum so your buddy is right but its still a cool find.

Bruh "just a clear form of gypsum" like that makes it any less cool. You're basically saying a diamond is just a clear form of carbon. I bet your buddy is the type to point out that a rainbow is "just light refracted through water droplets" like yeah thanks for killing the magic dude. Next time I'll make sure to only get excited about rocks that have cool names like "super rare unobtanium" or whatever.
