My teacher insisted I keep my punty rod at a 45 degree angle for transfers
I tried it for a month in my home studio and kept dropping pieces, but switching to a 30 degree angle made everything stick perfectly. Has anyone else found a different angle that works better for them?

Teachers can get really stuck on one method. Mine swore by a 45 too, and I had the same problem with smaller goblets just sliding off. A friend who does solid sculptural work actually goes almost flat, maybe 10 degrees. It seems to depend completely on what you're making and the type of glass.

But what if that one method is the only safe way to teach beginners?
