My caulk line looked fine until the sun hit it at 3 PM.

I was finishing a shower door install in a Denver condo, and I thought my silicone bead was perfect. Then the afternoon light came through the window and showed every single wobble and skip in the line. The homeowner said, 'It looks like a little kid did it.' How do you get that perfectly smooth, even bead every single time?

Sunlight is the ultimate truth teller for caulk lines. The trick is using way more tape than you think you need. Run painter's tape on both sides of the joint, tool it smooth with a wet finger or a plastic spoon, then peel the tape immediately for a razor-sharp edge.

I mean my dad used to say the same thing about his coffee making. We were at his place last weekend and he spilled hot coffee on three different surfaces before 8am trying to pour from the pot. I just handed him a paper towel and changed the subject.
