Finally nailed a color palette by just using a photo from my window
Was stuck on a branding project for a local cafe for a week, then just sampled the morning sky and brick wall outside. Anyone have a go-to method when you're color-blocked?

Ever worry that method is too random for a client's brand? I need a system, like starting with their core values on a mood board first. Colors come last for me.

Have you seen that article about how color can actually shape how people feel about a brand's values? It argued picking colors last might make them feel tacked on instead of part of the core idea. I'm starting to think there's a middle ground between total randomness and a super strict system.

Totally get needing a system, but sometimes the best mood board is just... outside. Starting with a photo like that isn't random, it's pulling from a real feeling or a place, which is way more honest than just matching colors to a list of abstract words. The trick is to then build the system around those found colors, so they feel grounded instead of tacked on. It keeps things from getting too stiff and corporate.
