A quick fix for our empty guest lounge...

Visitors used to just sit there looking bored... I left out some board games and now they actually chat before meetings... Any easy additions you've tried?

Which board games got them talking the most?

Last Thursday I saw two visitors staring at a Settlers of Catan box like it was a math test. Honestly sometimes board games just add pressure to perform. @fisher.felix asking which games work best might be missing that any game can force interaction instead of letting it happen naturally. What about just having better magazines or leaving the TV on a nature channel?

Honestly, a simple puzzle on the coffee table got my quiet guests chatting without any pressure.

Two visitors? That's the part that gets me. If you're already having people over, the hard part is done. Putting a complex game in front of them just changes the mood completely. It turns a simple chat into a task with rules to learn. A magazine or quiet TV gives people an easy out if they want it, or something to talk about if they don't. Forced fun often isn't fun at all.
