I was cleaning out a guest lounge and found a weird note from 1998
It was tucked in a sofa cushion and said the room's original wallpaper cost $12 a roll, which seemed crazy cheap. Where else do people find random history about their spaces?

Oh wow, that's a cool find... I love stuff like that. My old apartment had names scratched into the basement concrete from like the 1940s... it makes you wonder about all the little stories a place holds. Finding a price note from back then is a real snapshot in time.

Yeah I remember reading about a woman who found a whole set of love letters from the 1920s stuffed in her attic insulation. They were from a soldier to his wife. Really made you think about all the lives that brushed through these old buildings. That price note you found is exactly that kind of thing. It's not some big famous event, just someone's Tuesday. That's what gets me. The everyday stuff nobody thought would matter ends up being the most interesting.

Totally get what you mean about the little stories. I read this article once about a guy who found shopping lists from the 1950s tucked in a wall during a reno. It was all stuff like lard and coffee for 30 cents. Felt like a message from another world. You're right, @kelly.robin, it's that snapshot feeling. Makes the past feel real, not just in a book. Those everyday things people left behind are the best history.
