Our guest lounge flooded from a burst pipe on Tuesday
We had to move all the furniture out and run fans for three days straight. The whole room smelled like wet carpet and it was a total mess. Has anyone else dealt with water damage in a shared space like this?

Honestly that sounds like a major overreaction. A little water never hurt anyone, fans for three days is overkill. Shared spaces get messy, it's just part of living with other people. You probably made it way worse by moving everything and stressing over a smell that would've gone away on its own.

Oh come on, you're really gonna defend letting wet carpet just sit there? That smell doesn't just "go away on its own", it seeps into everything and gets worse over time. Fans for three days is totally reasonable when you're dealing with moisture trapped in padding and subfloor. I've seen people ignore that kind of thing and end up with mold patches spreading up the walls. Why would you gamble with your health and your deposit like that?
