A customer brought in a gun stuffed with rice to 'absorb moisture' and I had to keep a straight face.

It's that same quick-fix logic you see everywhere, like using a credit card to scrape ice off your windshield. People get an idea that seems clever in the moment (you know, like the rice trick) and just run with it, without really thinking it all the way through. The goal becomes the only thing that matters, even if the method is kind of a mess.

Saw a guy at the range once trying to dry out his shotgun with a hairdryer, had the thing plugged into his truck's inverter. He said the rice trick was too slow and he wanted to shoot that afternoon. The smell of hot gun oil and burnt dust was wild, lol. Honestly not sure which method is worse.

Back in '09 at a camp in Oregon, I watched a guy use his truck's heater vents to dry a soaked rifle. He laid all the parts on the dashboard and cranked the heat for an hour... said it worked better than waiting. Makes you wonder what people will try when they're in a hurry.
