Tried a new bluing solution on a 1911 slide, got a purple tint instead
Used a cold blue kit from a brand called Oxpho-Blue, followed the instructions exactly on a polished slide. It came out with this weird plum color, not the deep black I wanted. Anyone know what causes that purple shade and how to fix it?

Yeah, cold blue can be weird on highly polished steel. I had that purple haze happen once. I ended up lightly re-polishing with 0000 steel wool, then applying the blue in much thinner coats, really rubbing it in hard with a cotton pad. The color evened out after two or three tries.

Try degreasing with acetone first, then apply the blue in quick, even strokes.
